Career growth at Opto

Engineering at Opto is an amazing place to grow in your career. You’ll own projects and work with great people. Your teammates and managers will give you thoughtful feedback and empower you to try things and take chances. Here are some examples of how this can play out.

Code reviews: Here is an example of a code review I found helpful: Code review Luc had already made some updates to how our React queries work that made things easier to work with, based on newer patterns than we had been using. He makes a request for a change that’s actually helpful and discusses the reasons why. You will get good code reviews at Opto. Engineers here are good - and interested in knowing what is happening in the larger engineering world. People will engage with what you are trying to build.

Feature feedback: You will get feedback early and often on new features and projects. Here is Mir asking for feedback on a multi-page form that he is working on: Feature feedback slack Mir got 22 replies, and people engaged with the question. It was pretty efficient. After the question, everyone agreed that yes that was a good idea. Then the conversation turned to how to do it. It was a feature the next day.

Manager feedback You will also have one on ones with your manager every week. These are some of the most thoughtful people you will ever meet, and they care about your career growth.

Conversation topics: Here are some topics that you can ask about for more details when you interview with us.

  • Demo Days, where people show off new features, side projects, and passion projects.
  • Spike tests for complicated new features like subscription documents.
  • The phrase “I intend.” Want to make a major change? We start with this phrase to get input and help from teammates.

The culture, your team, and your manager will make this an exciting place to work, where you are going to learn and grow - no matter where you are in your career.
